The Program: Northwest oaks Fields
Division III Teams for boys and girls in the Under-10 through Under
19 age groups. These teams differ from the Division IV (recreational) team in several ways.
Division III
teams develop competitive players. These teams are available for soccer players who show potential and are
will to make a bigger commitment to their soccer teams.
The Season: Most
Division III teams will begin practicing in June or July. Each team sets its own
schedule. The tournament season begins in August, and the league season begins in September. Each team plays
12 league games against teams from Northern California. Teams may attend several tournaments in
August, one tournament in September and one in October. Successful teams might qualify for post-season
play, which in some cases could extend into the winter.
The Cost: Division III teams incur costs beyond registration fees. To offset expenses from tournament
entry fees, team camps and equipment and uniforms, the teams hold fund-raisers throughout the season.
Each team has its own budget and fund raising plan. The average cost per player is approximately
$100.00-$300.00 plus travel, food, and lodging expenses. No player should decide not to play because of
financial considerations.
U16 and U19 teams will have and additional $50 in registration fees.
The Tryouts: Each
Division III team will hold tryouts to determine who will play on the team. Tryouts
are open- any child can try out for the team in his/her age group. The coach and a panel of evaluators assess
the athlete's performance at tryouts. At tryouts, coaches will be evaluating athletes on the following
criteria: speed, quickness, athleticism, work-rate, team play, skills and coach ability. It is best to attend as
many tryouts as possible in order to improve your chances of making the team.
You must attend at least one tryout to be considered for the
team. Each player that tries out for a Division III team will be notified
by mail, whether or not he/she has made the team. Players who are not selected will automatically be placed
on a Division IV or a recreational team in their age group.
